PHP and me

Led by my thirst for knowledge, I have enlisted in the PHP course, provided by Telerik Academy. It is intended for junior developers with some basic understanding of the programming process and knowledge in HTML. English at working level and serious attitude are also required. Our lecturer will be Ivan Vankov (gatakka)

What I am going to learn?

The course is supposed to provide the junior developers with important skills to work with PHP as a tool for developing web applications. We will learn how this programming language works and what is it's basic syntax. We will also gain good understanding of the usage of loops and arrays as well as working with the file system, sessions and data bases. Last but not least, we'll learn the structure of the object model in PHP and how to write and navigate functions.

The first lecture

We had our first lecture on the 4th of Septemer. It started with some basic stuff concerning the way the course will be run, how the final grade will be evaluated, what kind of resources will need for the course and so on. Then we had some general teachings about the philosophy behind PHP and the programming in general. To my surprise it was matching perfectly with what we had already been taught during the C# courses. Finally, we started talking about the conditional statements. Again, except for some syntax differences, everything seems pretty similar to C#. No homework was given this time and there will be none next Wednesday too. That's rather unfortunate though, because I am pretty eager to start using PHP. But must show some patience. After all, I have a project defense on 11th of September and C# - part two exam on the 14th of September. Wish me luck!
